Winter Is Almost Here...

It is so cold in the mornings now and the cat's ears are always freezing!!! I try to warm them up by breathing hot breath on the back of their ears but they think I'm being creepy lol! So we go and sit in the sun instead :)

The Lettuce in the Lettuce tower is going really well, so I planted some more today....

The holes were cut to put the Lettuce in, but I forgot to take a photo after i planted the seedlings in there....

Pretty Ruffled Pansies....

And Candy Stripe Cosmos...

This Delphinium has flower buds!!! :)

The vegetable beds are very happy!! :D I sprayed the plants again today (after harvesting the Silverbeet) to kill the caterpillars that have since hatched after putting the net on, hopefully I won't have to spray them again :)

Harvested Silverbeet....

I left a few large leaves on each plant...

I gently dug next to a carrot to make sure they're forming roots- looks good :)

The Savory Cabbage is starting to form hearts :)

A Yellow and Pink Silverbeet plant in the Silverbeet bed....

Caught the chicken in the act!!

Excuse me... But I think you left something behind???

Mrs Somerhalder and I went to a Farmers Market on Saturday... It wasn't very big, There was probably 5 small stalls selling fruit and vegetables?? My opinion is varied, some things I liked, other's i'm not happy about... I thought that being straight from the farms everything would be at it's freshest, but unfortunately, not true, I bought a punnet of Blueberries for $6.50 (in a supermarket they would normally be $5) but thinking that they would be better because they're fresher, Sadly no, they were inconsistent in flavor, one sweet, one sour, one bitter, one watery, one just gross,  and then a lot that i wouldn't eat because they were split :(. There was one stall that sold plants, I bought some herbs, and when I planted them out today....

....look how pot bound the Chives where!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never seen any plant that pot bound before!

The rest were nowhere near that bad, thankfully....Not the best first impression of a farmers market though :(

The leaves have almost all dropped from the trees nearest the vegetable beds :) The more sunlight through Winter the better :)

The Silverbeet to the left is from the all Silverbeet bed, to the right is the Silverbeet from the vegetable beds, Look at the difference between the size of leaves!!! I'm starting to wonder if sunlight is the only factor between the two, They were the same seedlings started at the same time,  I do fertilize everything at the same time (all beds/vegetables/flowers) and its the same fertilizer.... But the soil.... The soil in the new beds has never been used before, never had anything to leach it's minerals... And I have added compost, trace elements and fertilizer into the old bed, but maybe it's not enough??? Am I missing something???

I made Macarons!!!

Drawing circle guides...

Mixing the Meringue mix... then added the almond base mix... into a piping bag...

Before the oven...

After the oven....

Cooling the chocolate filling.... and putting the macarons on the cooling rack....

Piped togetter with chocolate filling and you're done!!! YUM!!!!! The chocolate really overpowers the Raspberry though, I guess thats why they're called Choc Raspberry, not Raspberry Choc...

Happy Gardening!! :)
