My blisters have blisters!

I've heard people joke about it but i never knew it could actually happen!!!

My blisters have blisters!!

And this is why! Yay,  soil!!!!! :D 

Casey came to help... then remembered she had better things to do, meowed something about washing her fur...

The first couple of trips worth....

A lot more- I had to take a break after that, it was too hot outside and I could feel the sun burning me.

And this is where i stopped yesterday. I knew I had to do as much as i could in the one day before I felt it, especially the blisters. But, yay! :)

Half a pile left...

I tried to transplant Kibby, the black cat that was growing in the other bed, but she didn't like it! So instead I planted a petunia that was flowering in a small pot a friend and I planted.

Lots of the seeds have sprouted! :)

See the difference in sizes between the green seed trays and the other black pots... should have very happy seedlings :)

A Saturday of Soil

I get my soil delivered today!!!!!! I'm so excited!!! .... And I think I need to get a life lol :)

I put a border around the Delphinium, more to hold the soil there then anything else.

I also completed the beds by putting down non-woven weed mat...

And then nailed in some wire to give it protection. Take that tree roots!!! Try and get into my garden bed now!!! Mwwhaahaaahaahaaaaa!!!!! :) They dropped some leaves in there instead.

All ready to be filled with soil! :)

This one is almost perfect! I forgot to take a photo before work and when i got back the wind had torn the top side of the flower. But the colour is still beautiful :)

I also planted out my Sweet Peas, well, some of them, I will have lots more as soon as I know where to put them, (these are at the same trellis as the Morning Glory).. I really like the ripple Sweet Pea I planted last year, like the one at the top of this page. These ones here are called "hi-sent" they're a white/purple.

And lastly a Harvest, lots of beans, mainly Purple climbing, some Dragon's Tongue and Snake beans. And some cucumbers :)

Now to wait for the soil to arrive!!!!!! - I mean-to get a life!!..... 

(..really just waiting for the soil :)..)

Pretty Pictures

I didn't have much time this evening after work, but i got a few photos...

Morning Glory- Kikyo, The blooms only last a day, and at the end of the day the royal blue fades to a purple colour before the flowers 'melt'. This photo was taken a few months ago....

And this one from this evening, I wish got to see it before it faded! The white stripes look perfect!

A petunia flowered :) Weed free happy!

Happy, very tall Zinnias... I'm glad they can't climb trees!! ^^ I had to stand on the new garden bed to take the photo!

And a beautiful sunset.

Not so lazy Sunday

I got a lot of little things done today, I went to Bunnings this morning and bought some potting mix and seed raising mix, And some tall thin pots to put some seeds in, I find that the roots of seedlings grow so much deeper then the normal seed trays allow? Why is that? Why don't the company's make the seed trays deeper for better root growth? I did find some though, not trays but single pots, there about 4cm wide but a good 10cm deep. They were a bit expensive at $2.79 for only 6, but the plastic is good quality.

So many weeds.... Yes that used to be my flower garden.....

Now weed free! In there are Asters, Lisianthus, a lone Snap Dragon and Canterbury Bell, and some Petunias my friend gave me. Today i added some Delphinium and gave them all a good water with liquid fertilizer :)

The new seed pots are the black ones, They are twice as tall as the green seed trays. It should help prevent transplant shock too having more space for the roots to grow. In them I planted Kale-Tuscan Black, Broccoli De Cicco, Brussel Sprout- Long Island Imp, Romanesco, and Stock- Cinderella Mix.

Two New Garden Beds, One sore blister

On Monday I went to Masters to get the timber for the beds..

And it only JUST fit into the car!! The car complained all the way home too.

I made this one yesterday, and also....

I grew a cat!!!!!!!

And finished the other one this afternoon. I have a large blister on my finger though, which won't be fun at work tomorrow :(. To make both beds it cost me $167.00, but I ran out of nails! So I will have to get some more, they were about $8. Still much cheaper then the kits you can buy- and I didn't like the thought of metal beds, wouldn't the metal heat up and dry out the beds faster? These ones here are 180cm long, 120cm wide and 40cm high. I normally have to put a pest exclusion net over the garden to stop fruit fly in summer and cabbage moth... well every other season, so I purchased taller corner posts to help support it. Now they just need soil! Hopefully I can get some this weekend or next? Fingers crossed!

A New Start

Recent rain has turned my once productive garden in to a swamp... we already have one of them in this town and don't really fancy one in my back yard... (can't even swim in it).... so I will be starting a new with my garden this season and adding in some more raised beds. This will improve drainage and hopefully, with the help of weed mesh and some fine wire, stop the tree roots from interfering and taking all of the nutrients i give the vegetables.

My tomatoes BEFORE the weeks of rain...

Where they used to be, I had to pull them out, It was a terrible season here for tomatoes, searing heat that would burn the tips, even with the bit of shade that the net gave them then flooding that split all of the green tomatoes. I didn't get a photo of the swamp that used to be there, one wrong step and my legs had a therapeutic mud bath... This is where I will put the new raised beds soon...
